That stuff is good. I really like your shading technique.

Here's a few pieces I've done

For obvious reasons, this is the show piece. Of all my pieces, this and my haystack painting were revered as my best works.

One of my early oil paintings that I did for a good friend of mine.

My first charcoal piece.

Probably my favorite piece. A photo doesn't do it justice.

The Camera screwed this one up, the lines aren't curved like you see them in this. Stupid camera has to curve everything. -_-

I'll critique this one...

I really like the shadows on the face. That right eye (the one on left) is definitely my favorite part of the piece. The effects you put in and around it really are astounding. The hair strands are very nice, but I feel you went so detailed on the hair it looks somewhat unrealistic compared to the face. I feel you need to blur some of the strands together and make them different sizes. (My teacher ingrained in my brain that no two shapes can be the same size unless it's symmetric or a pattern.) You did that somewhat, but it still needs some work. Also some of the shadows and highlights in the hair need to be more intensified so it doesn't look like all one highlight. (I know it probably looks more contrast in the actual thing, but if you want to showcase a piece online you have to exaggerate it extra because cameras are stupid. If you can work on that the hair will be great. That shouldn't take too long to fix.

The only other concern I have is a very slight proportional problem on the face. It's nothing big, but the left eye is off a little bit and same with the mouth. You can't really do much to improve it, but maybe intensify the changes in shadow around that left eye since it seems like all one shadow on the right side of it. I know this is picky, but my teacher did it to me so many times and I would get so pissed off at her. I guess I'm gradually starting to see some of those tiny things she sees. They are never mind blowing fixes, but they really do help the overall composition.

It's a great piece so far.

To add to Decyfer's pointS:

The nose, is fine. But the mouth, is not. You need to lighten the shadows at the edge between the lips. It looks as if he/she is drooling oil.

But fantastic work nonetheless.

thanks for the critique.

This was the first time i have every really tried hair, so it was more of an experiment than anything else. I'll see what i can do as far as touching up the hair.

As far as the eye... i started over on that so many times my paper has started peeling. so i don't know what i can do for that area, I'll try to just intensify the shadows and see if that helps.

And the mouth, i will also see what i can do without screwing up my picture too badly in the process.

this picture was a little hard from the beginning, because the image i drew it from was low quality. Here is the actual picture. i'll post up my changes in a bit. Smile

Well, from seeing that picture, the shadow on the right of the nose needs to be intensified much more than the other shadows in the area. (so it doesn't look like just one shadow around that half of the eye.)

(This is going to be hard to explain without showing you. Sorry if there is a misunderstanding.) The problem with the mouth is not the shadows but the shape of the moth in general. The shadows are what make it look like it's drooping in the photo, but you have the whole mouth drooping in your piece. The actual mouth on it's right side ends at the tip of the eye, and the angle on that side needs to be raise a slight bit. Also the left side of the mouth needs a shadow coming into it so the top and the bottom lip don't look like they are merged near the end.

The hair is getting better but seeing the picture, there are a lot more shadows on her right side, and the hair needs to get a little messier. It just looks to perfect for it's own good.

Thanks for all the pointers, not sure if i want to dig back into it though. spent a good 15 hours trying to make it like that. My patience with this particular drawing has run dry. Smile

Im going to try my luck at selling both portraits and the Russian soldier on Ebay, have any good starting prices?

Also, if i do sell them.. how do i protect it while it's being shipped?

The soldier around 20$, the First portrait 30-40$ and if you at least fix the mouth on the third one, 60$ (it's good as it is, but if you fix that one thing at least, then you'll definitely bump up the starting price from 30-40$) Those prices are a little high for ebay,(I was looking at other pencil drawings on there, most were cheap, under 20$) so you should try to find someone that might want it that lives in your area first. Hell, that even helps you so you won't have to ship it.

I know it's tedious work, but I spent that time too. It get's really frustrating, but it is definitely worth the effort. Hell, 20 hours on that batik made me over 600$ in prints and 500$ for the actual thing.

If you do ship it, put two slabs of cardboard sandwiching it and make sure you duct tape it tight so that it doesn't smear the drawing. Then just take it to a postal service and they should wrap it up for you. You could also wrap it up like a scroll and get one of those containers. I believe they ship those, but I'm not 100% sure.

Tips for eBay:

-Buy tons of tutorial videos that you see on the infomercials with the Barbie Doll girls with fake b00bies.

-Sell your piece with the title of
- "L@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@K SUPER AWESOME AMAZING BEAUTIFUL HANDWRITTEN PIECE OF HOT GIRLZ AND B00BS L@@@@@@@@@@K"

-For your display icon, make sure it's a picture of a Barbie fake tit Doll.

-Finally: Sell it for 20000000 dollars saying that you used a pencil made from ashes. If it's a painting, the brushes you used (at least 400 brushes) were made from the pubic hairs of 60000 different virgins from around the world.

My tutorial ftw. jk
